Trail Ride and Wine Tasting Through the Rattlesnake
Hills to Benefit Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
The Yakima Valley
Old Peoples Riding Club will be sponsoring the “Jerri
Lin Canter Against Cancer” trail ride. Spearheaded
by Linda Spurlock, co-owner of Severino Cellars, this is
sure to be a fun filled and, hopefully, well attended event.
This fundraising trail ride will be routed through orchards
and vineyards of Zillah, WA, and will take about 3 ½ hours.
A walking route will be available as well. Stops will be
made along the way at several wineries in the Rattlesnake
Hills. There will also be a vehicle that will transport your
purchases back to the registration table where they will be
held for you. Named after Dr. Jerri Nielsen-Fitzgerald, the
physician who, when working for the U.S. National Science
Foundation at the South Pole, discovered and treated herself
for breast cancer. The first “Canter Against Cancer” ride
was held last October, in Massachusetts by friends of Jerri
Lin. All it takes to participate is $40 or more in donations
and/or pledges to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center!
All participants will receive a Canter Against Cancer
wristband and t-shirt. All ages are welcome! If you would
like additional information you may call Severino Cellars at
509-8293800 and Linda would be more than happy to answer
your questions. |

WINEMAKER DINNERS IN THE VINEYARDS Rustic
but chic, relaxed yet elegant, the barn at Sheridan Vineyard
exemplifies the Washington Wine Country lifestyle. From
here, take in the glorious views of Yakima Valley as you
relax for an evening with some of Washington's most
avant-garde winemakers, and taste the very best of their
boutique wineries. Your host, self-taught winemaker and
founder of Sheridan Vineyard, Scott Greer, will handpick
wines from his amazing portfolio of lush reds and crisp
whites. Joining him will be winemaker and owner of Darby
Winery, Darby English who, in just a few years, has managed
to quickly distinguish himself as one of Woodinville's
premier producers, with his well structured, palate-friendly
wines. And last by certainly not least, Chris Sparkman,
winemaker for Sparkman Cellars, General Manager of
Waterfront Grill in Seattle, and consummate gentleman, will
pour his award-winning wines while making sure that a good
time is had by all. Pair these with the innovative,
locally-inspired culinary creations of Chef Bear Ullman of
The Marc Restaurant in Walla Walla, and you've got a true
Washington Wine Country evening. |

WINEMAKER DINNERS IN THE VINEYARDS Wine is about coming together with family and
friends from harvesting the grapes and crafting the wine to
enjoying it in the glass. Mercer Estates is a delightful
consequence of two collaborations: the sun and soil of
eastern Washington and the Mercer and Hogue families with
renowned winemaker David Forsyth, who together produce
superior wines that express the synergy of art and science.
For Swiftwater Cellars, it was a simple pairing of winemaker
Tony Rynders unique style and the Watts familys 30-year
dedication to top quality agriculture that has resulted in
their premium wines crafted in Washingtons Cascade
Mountains. And for family-owned Pepper Bridge Winery, the
focus is on crafting world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and
Merlot wines that showcase their Walla Walla Valley estate
vineyards. These wines will be paired with an authentic
Italian meal created by Chef Brad Patterson of Gasperettis
Restaurant and Bar, a family-owned restaurant serving Yakima
since 1943, whose menus reflect the bounty of fresh fruit
and vegetables available in the Yakima Valley. What can we
say? Its all in the family.
