Bergevin Lane Vineyards
...a tribute to Walla Walla's past, present and future

The women of Bergevin Lane Vineyards, Walla Walla Valley wine region of Washington State

Deeply rooted in the early history of the Walla Walla Valley, and in its more recent past as a Washington wine region, members of the well-known Bergevin family were pioneers to this area in the mid-nineteenth century.  Small wonder then Walla Walla's wine industry is well represented by members of that same family.

The Back Story...

Gary Bergevin has been involved in the area's wine and farming communities for decades.  A native of Walla Walla, he became a director of Sandpiper Farms in 1972.  Acquiring first-hand knowledge of this land's potential led him next to become a founding partner of the now renowned Canoe Ridge Vineyard when it was sited in 1988.  The vineyard's first vines were planted 1989.

In 1990, Canoe Ridge Vineyard formed a partnership with the Chalone Wine Group; Gary sat on the oversight committee for vineyard operations.  When the vineyard merged with Canoe Ridge Vineyard Winery in 1993, Gary became a director of the winery as well.

In the meantime, with her BA in Communications well in hand, Gary's daughter Annette Bergevin left home to establish a career within the telecommunications and recruitment industries of the San Francisco Bay area.  Fifteen years passed, and Annette longed for a change... a change that would offer her an opportunity to return home.  She shared her thoughts and news from home with business associate and good friend Amber Lane.  The news from home included updates about Walla Walla’s wine industry… its exciting and remarkable growth.  The subject did not fall on deaf ears since Amber's family also had a long history of farming and working with the earth.  Annette’s and Amber’s individual dreams of began to merge into a shared dream, and the stage was set for what became the reality of Bergevin Lane Vineyards.

Annette will never forget the call from her father and the fateful question, "Do you and Amber have any interest in starting a small winery?"

Bergevin Lane Vineyards was formed in 2002.  Combining Gary’s experience and strong industry ties with Annette's and Amber's entrepreneurial, business and marketing expertise, Bergevin Lane winery could hardly avoid becoming the award-winning Washington winery it is today.

 The Winemaker - Steffan Jorgensen

Winemaker Steffan was raised in Denmark and brings extensive experience and winemaking inspiration to the Bergevin Lane team from his work in France, Chile and Sonoma, CA.  All of the day-to-day winemaking operations and production are under Steffan’s supervision.  He ensures that Bergevin Lane wines are nurtured from vineyard to bottle, enhanced by his experience, palate and passion.

The Future...

A passion for wine, 20,000 square feet of space, and 21 stainless steel tanks allow Bergevin Lane to expand its production as success and market demand require.  The future of Bergevin Lane Vineyards promises to remain bright as rave reviews consistently praise its discriminating premium wines -- wines created in an elegant style to reflect harmony between fruit and oak.  Working closely with all its vineyard growers, Bergevin Lane insures it will always have the best of grapes by purchasing its fruit by the acre vs. the ton to ensure the utmost quality of fruit.

Expressions of artistic joy... Bergevin Lane blends

“Our blends are a joy. It is our winemaker’s expression of his favorite lots and barrels. We look at our blends like a well balanced sauce. All the components must merge perfectly so that the presentation, from aromatics, to the first sip, swirl and finally swallow, comes together as one finely balanced and perfectly integrated experience.”

2009 Calico White
Columbia Valley
$19.00  [Order Now]

The Calico White is our extremely popular white blend. There are reasons for that! It all starts in the vineyards where we have the cooler climate Yakima Valley grapes playing against fuller flavored Columbia Valley and Walla Walla fruit. The attributes from these different areas go hand in hand and they are being accentuated at the winery utilizing many different fermentation vessels and techniques to create a clean, crisp and enormously complex blend!

White peaches, citrus, and lemon peel combines with pears and apples enticingly teasing the senses. Certain mineral components adds layers of complexity while maintaining great over all sensory balance. Very smooth and rich in the mouth flavors develop reminiscent of partly sur lie aged wine adding even deeper layers and over all balance. A certain favorite for summer sipping.

2006 Intuition Reserve
Columbia Valley
$59.00  [Order Now]
92 pts Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2010
93 Points - Wine Advocate - Oct 2009

Winemaker Notes:  Very classic, intense and complex nose of a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Bordeaux blend! Cassis, dark berries, spice, earth, minerals and some cigar box.  As the Petite Verdot kicks in notes of ripe blue berries lifts the wine to another level! In the mouth its very layered with notes of all of the above complimented by fine grained tannins and a long finish that keeps on sailing.

We get our grapes ripe, rich and fruity every year but there is always this old world influence of terroir, earth, minerality and great natural acidity in our wines. The INTUITION is the perfect example! Big, rich and ripe but with very complex undertones of the above mentioned and a core of great balanced acidity and tannin. We use old world techniques and minimum influence production methods to showcase the vineyards in all their glory. The lots are saigne’d before fermentation, cold soaked and then left on the skins for as long a possible to increase over all power and terroir feel. A sense of place is important here!!!

Varietal composition:  70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot,
10% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot
Cases produced:  245
