After
more than 50 years of winemaking and winegrowing experience, John
Weisinger shows no signs of fatigue or boredom; to the contrary.
Weisinger's of Ashland continues to expand, evolve and innovate as it
grows in reputation as one of the finest wine producers in both the Rogue
Valley and the Southern Oregon appellations.
In the vineyard, Weisinger's recently added Tempranillo vines to its
selection of estate-grown grapes; to its original building (housing a
tasting room, barrel storage and a bottling line), Weisinger's recently
completed construction of a three-tiered deck for hosting its many music
events and winemaker dinners; in the ground adjacent to the winery,
Weisinger's is installing a state-of-the-art geothermal cooling and
heating system to more efficiently control the interior environments of
the winery buildings. By using the stable temperature of the earth
four feet below the surface, this system will reduce significantly the
carbon footprint of Weisinger's of Ashland. Weisinger's
of Ashland
wines all are produced from grapes
grown in Southern Oregon. The
Bear Creek drainage of the Rogue Valley appellation, where the Weisinger vineyards
are located, is Oregon's driest valley. Here the
winery's estate vineyards are grown on hillsides of gentle, south-facing slopes near or above 2,000 feet
elevation. This
elevation provides day and night temperatures that develop intense
fruit flavors in the grapes.
Distinctive merging of geology,
elevation and climatic conditions throughout Southern Oregon create many
micro climates ideal for growing a wide array of wine-grape varietals
also used in Weisinger wines resulting in distinctive flavor profiles.
"Our wines are made with an emphasize on showcasing
these flavors and celebrating their uniqueness," says John Weisinger.
Weisinger is proud to be operating his winery in the Ashland
area, one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the western United States.
A
rich wine history of the region goes back to the early 1840s, when Italian and
Swiss immigrants began planting grapes and eventually bottling wines. Today, the region known as
the Rogue Valley AVA is known to produce some of the very finest red wines
of Oregon. At Weisinger's
you will find Bordeaux-style blends, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay,
Viognier and several exotic and traditional blends – Mescolare, an Italian blends
combining Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Nebbiolo; Petite Blanc,
a delightful blend of white French varietals; Semillon-Chardonnay, as
well as a dry Cabernet Franc Rosé.
Weisinger's
of Ashland is a family-owned and operated winery located one mile south of
its namesake, Ashland, Oregon.
It is situated on a hill overlooking the Valley with the Cascade and Siskiyou
mountains as an awe-inspiring backdrop to the east and the south.
It's a place you won't soon forget.

Weisinger's
estate includes a very special Vineyard Cottage, perfect for those who seek a unique
vineyard venue for a romantic getaway. Embraced by an oasis of vineyards and shade
trees (filled with the music of Southern Oregon song birds), enhanced by a deck with
a hot tub and surrounding gardens, Weisinger's Vineyard Cottage
offers an experience you won't soon forget. Once an apple shed on the
family's farm, this private, one-bedroom cottage bares no resemblance to
any shed you've ever seen. John Weisinger transformed this out-building himself to its current
upscale incarnation; the fact that John and his wife
lived in it for a short period of time explains the "they've-thought-of-everything factor" at this charming wine-country getaway. Just
four miles south of downtown
Ashland's theater district, the Vineyard Cottage is a sublime and
relaxing respit from the bustle of its popular nearby city any season of the
year.
